Lily Sanderson is ready to give it all up for love. Born to the royal court of Thalassinina, as Princess Waterlily, heir to the kingdom, Lily has fallen in love with a human boy and wishes to renounce her title to live on land with her boyfriend, Quince. Enter her hot-mess of a cousin, Dosinia.
Doe, the human-hating, hurricane of a cousin from the sea, has been exiled by Lily's father. Lily has been tasked with teaching Doe to respect the human race before her father will lift the exile. The cousin stirs up a massive amount of trouble for Lily and Quince, and a visit from an old mer-friend of Lily's creates a great storm on land, and in the sea.
Lily must choose between her heart and her responsibilities, but finds a way to manage both to a happy new start of her life both in and out of the water.
Childs's clever writing wraps in a perfect amount of dialogue and marine references to keep the story upbeat and funny. I look forward to reading the next installment in the series to find out just how well Princess Waterlily adapts to her new life.
