Book Review: THE CHANGELING and STORMBRINGERS by Phillipa Gregory

Being a fan of Philippa Gregory's adult historical fiction, I was very excited to pick up this series.  And I must say, I was not disappointed.

Gregory once again manages to show us why the Dark Ages were so dark.  The story fully shows the unenlightened and often barbaric society, driven by a superstitious, and corrupt governance from the Church.

My favorite thing about the way Gregory writes, is how she weaves magic into the story, but somehow, you are never really sure that magic is actually at work or not (which is how the people performing the magic in the story often feel).

The story is a mystery, a love story, a coming of age story, with a twist from the supernatural, and a realistic look at medieval society: it's prejudices and ignorant discrimination, and it's superstitions, as well as it's corrupt nature.

If you are a fan of Gregory's adult historical fiction, you won't mind at all that the two main characters are teens. I loved both books and anxiously await Order of Darkness Series - Book #3  FOOL'S GOLD, sometime this year.
